SH2, Napier to Wairoa is closed due to slip

State Highway 2 between Napier and Wairoa is likely to remain closed until further notice following a slip.

The highway is closed just north of Putorino, following a slip earlier today that is blocking the road.

Waka Kotahi NZTA advised at 8.40am that the road was closed between Putorino and Kotemaori and motorists were advised to avoid the area or delay their journey if possiible.

An update at 11.20am states that the road remains closed and is likely to be closed for the rest of the day.

"The road is expected to be closed until further notice, motorists are advised to delay their travel and to check Waka Kotahi Journey Planner website for updates: https://www.journeys.nzta.govt.nz/highway-conditions," says a  police spokesperson.

Work to repair and restore three sections of cyclone-damaged State Highway 2 between Wairoa and Napier began on Thursday, November 30.
