Maria Moore and Jerrie-Lee Ngareta Hill have signed themselves up to skydive 12,000ft for The Graeme Dingle Foundation "Drop for Youth" campaign this Sunday.
”We both like to help make a difference in the community and support each other on projects,” says Maria.
“Jerrie-lee joined an acting group I was in and from there our friendship grew..
“Jerrie told me about her GDF skydive and I said 'Cool, I’ve always wanted to do this,' next minute, well here we are; both being brave together for the community doing a terrifying jump that we are both never done before.
“We don’t really appreciate great heights at all, let alone falling out of a perfectly good plane!
“The Graeme Dingle Drop for Youth sits well with me and Jerrie-Lee.”
The Graeme Dingle Foundation Western Bay of Plenty aims to empower youth in the region to overcome obstacles and reach their potential.
“Youth today face many challengers,” says Maria.
“With the help from the GDF, our tamariki/children and rangatahi/youth can have access to programs like Kiwi Can, Stars, Career Navigator and Project K. That’s in 16 schools in the region and reaching 3800 young people.
“This means building self-confidence, tackling life challengers, and building a bright future.
“So, I’m doing this scary as jump because I want to help.
“It’s a win, win really, help the youth today to make better choices and see the potential, you will get a healthier community.”
Maria and Jerrie-Lee are both very generous ladies who have been volunteering and fundraising for many charities over the years.
“I find ways to help support community members in need to make there lives a bit nicer and less stressful.”
“Oh my god I’m skydiving!” says Maria. “I got this!”
“I’m not sure if anyone can support me on the day as loads have prior commitments.
“If anyone want to come support, I would appreciate this.
To support these incredible ladies go to 2 Kittyhawk Way behind “The Classic Flyers” at 2pm on Sunday, December 10.
