'Holding his organs': Witness describes stabbing

A witness has described how a man was lying unconscious on the ground, holding his organs, after being stabbed at a car meet.

Two people have been stabbed after over a thousand people showed up to a car-meet in Waikato on Saturday night, according to police.

The two people were stabbed just after midnight, on SH27, in the Matamata area, police says.

An eyewitness, who Stuff has agreed not to name, says the person was attacked whilst the cars were doing skids.

“I heard people laughing about the incident at the intersection.”

Police showed up and everyone ran back to their cars, he says.

A girl was going around asking people to let the ambulance through, which was when he saw a man lying on the ground.

He was passed out, holding his organs, the witness says.

“When we got back to the car and finally started driving, I saw the victim's friends standing around the car on the side of the road with no ambulance in sight.”

Police say they issued over 200 infringement notices due to the “anti-social” behaviour. Photo: Stuff file photo.

A video, seen by Stuff, shows a car doing a skid, before colliding with a person and sending them flying, upside down.

Police also found a baby in a vehicle at the street racer event.

Hamilton City Area Commander Inspector Will Loughrin says they are still making follow-up inquiries into the incident.

On top of the stabbing, police issued more than 200 infringement notices and made 12 arrests over the course of the night, he says.

“Alarmingly, attending police found a baby in one of the vehicles driven by a group of teenagers believed to have travelled from out of district.”

There were also many people in attendance with children, he says.

“There were numerous instances of people blocking intersections – both pedestrians and vehicles – a number of vehicles with no number plates and people wearing balaclavas in direct attempts to hide their identities, and people seen hanging out of windows of cars driven at speed.

“We know the community is sick and tired of this behaviour and people who needlessly put others at risk.”

Inspector Loughrin says police are wanting to send a message to those involved that they will be held to account for any illegal activity – either at the time or after the fact.

They would be using CCTV, he says, to follow up on criminal offending.

Police ineffectual

We are now in a situation where minority groups are discovering that there will be little if anything done to restrain their activities. The police are hamstrung by the courts and the courts are becoming increasingly ineffective in imposing appropriate measures to remove the bad apples from society. The laws of the land are supposed to protect the rights and freedoms of the majority, but there is more emphasis being placed on the rights of those that are prepared to disrupt and demonstrate their defiance of the law and the majority of the community.
Well played Labour/Green/Maori Party in reducing prison populations and giving us more feral behaviour in our communities.
