China growth and October curse

Jonathan York from Bay Financial Partners reviews the investment markets looking at some of the latest issues including concerns about the slowing China economy.

He dismisses concerns about the Chinese slowdown, saying while the growth rate of 7.5 per cent is down on the 10 per cent rate achieved in recent years it was still more than double Western economies.

Jonathan reflects on the economy's success in avoiding the 'October curse”- at least so far - which has made a habit of delivering bad economic news during the month in recent years.

After the rejection of Haier's initial offer by Fisher and Paykel's independent directors he wonders how they would respond to a slightly higher offer.
