What’s on Today?

A festival to showcase Maori talent will see people taking part in the sixth bi-annual Tauranga Moana Tauranga Tangata Festival today.

The festival will be held at the Historic Village, with a kapa haka competition on Sunday at the Queen Elizabeth Centre in Memorial Park. Event coordinator Tiana Bennett, left, and Maori services librarian Bernie Johnson looking at some photos.

The Historic Village will be turned into a carnival, main street festival with a large number of activities including a Wearable Arts Fashion Parade and a 2.5km walk organised to create 'a lot of fun for the whole whanau”.

The festival includes artistic, sporting, performance and intellectual events, along with health promotion activities, education opportunities, iwi promotions, rangatahi and tamariki specific activities.

Organisers say all of the activities were designed and developed to celebrate Tauranga and the people of the region.
