Traffic delays causing frustration

Members of the public say they have been stuck in traffic for more than an hour this morning.

The holiday period seems to be over in Tauranga, with traffic delays being reported around the city and the wider Western Bay of Plenty.

SunLive has received several reports from people saying traffic is a "nightmare" on State Highway 2, between Katikati and Te Puna.

One woman says she was stuck in traffic for an hour this morning.

"Traffic is shocking. I just got off the Omokoroa Road after more than 30 minutes," says another woman, who has had to tell her work she will be there when she can.

Children are returning to school this week, which means many parents will be returning back to work. This could be adding to the traffic delays.

There is also a road closure in place on Moffat Road, between  Cambridge Road and Willowbank Lane. This closure is part of the Takitimu Northern Link project, and will be in place until at least April, reports NZTA.

And the good news is.... We're spending millions on cycle lanes and bridges. Presumably all of our council staff turn up to the office and planning meetings with a cycle helmet, hi-vis vest and cycle clips these days. IF NOT WHY NOT...? Time to campaign against all council workers using a car and empty every council owned carpark of council vehicles. Let's start by picketing the one opposite Baycourt on Durham Street.

Mm Hmm

Spot on Let's get real, I have a friend who works for council, they are super happy they can now bike to work safely and no longer have to pay an outrageous amount of money in parking every week... It's disappointing that council are trying to make the city easier to traverse for everyone, instead of focusing solely on cars, everyone knows cars and roads are the only thing that matter and everyone should be driving them everywhere, all the time - The bike lanes should be converted into more lanes for traffic to sit in! We should be converting more of these useless green spaces into car parks, not doing the opposite like this backwards council is... Madness!

Disgraceful!

Perfect example... The people who are consciously willing to risk their lives and blame others when it all goes wrong.
Use a pushbike if you wish, but there must be a law banning pushbikes from the public thoroughfare (the road) where other users are travelling at speeds over 30kph.
Not sure, at this point in time, when we are focused intently on road deaths, that we "Allow" people to risk their lives with total disregard for their own safety. Even away from traffic they kill and seriously injure themselves by falling off.
Needless to say, I dislike cyclists, base jumpers, skydivers, freedivers, etc with a passion. Risk your life elsewhere. Your death or injury will very seriously impact on my life as well, if I find myself involved.

Cycling

Sure, bike to work, wobble all over the road, ride the wrong way through intersections.
Remain strictly colour blind. Blame every other road user for your behaviour.
Then drop the kids at school with your bike, and then do a weekly shop.
Thank God, we now have a Govt putting a stop to the cycle fantasy.

2hrs is ridiculous.
Talking about having enough fuel I see the price has jumped yet again. Unfortunately I use 98 and at Mobil Chapel Street yesterday it was $3.03pl.
I wonder whose to blame this time, Putin, Ukraine, Hamas, Israel, nature, greed . . .

Council Staff on Bikes

Great idea Lets get real. Can someone let me know how many council staff are currently riding bikes to work please and I'd like to know how will be in winter as well. Mind you, the current lot won't be there this winter.

Hwy 2 Kati to Tga debacle

I'm a commercial driver.
2 x trips from Katikati to Tga taking 2 hours 10 minutes each.
All because of a 500 meter stretch of resealing at Te Puna.
NZTA are a law onto themselves.
An arrogant, failing Govt Agency.
Get in a large Asian construction company to do the job properly and sack these tossers!

Yes bikes are so very dangerous (to think we let CHILDREN ride them, it's insanity) If only they were more like cars, which have never caused or had a single accident or fatality associated with them... oh wait, that's wrong! I checked the data and there were 341 fatalities from 304 crashes in NZ just last year... compared to the 8 cyclists that died on the roads (many of which, were struck by cars...) and looking past NZ, approximately 1.19 million people die each year as a result of road traffic crashes. So if you don't want to risk your life, I'd advise not getting behind the wheel! (and remember, you might be the safest driver, but that doesn't help so much when the person CRASHING INTO YOU drives like a reckless idiot) - Stay safe out there everyone, the road toll is already at 38...

And Yet.....the cows cant fart.

A tractor lawn mower mowz the m-way verge.
Fuel/running cost=$80
Labour to mow lawns=$35/hr
The 4 traffic control vehicles behind him with the flashing beacons and the 8 men to manage the 1x man mowing the lawns.............priceless bahahah. And yet the cows cant fart.
