State Highway 2, just south of Waihi, is reported to be closed, reports NZTA.

The roading agency has issued an alert saying the highway is closed due to a serious crash.

"Due to a serious crash on Coronation Bridge, near Heath Rd, SH2 is closed just south of Waihi.

"Expect delays.

"Detour information will be provided as soon as more details are available."

A police spokesperson says the crash was reported around 10:45am.

"One person is in a moderate to serious condition, and one person is in a moderate condition.

"The road is blocked, and diversions are in place.

"Motorists are advised to take the alternate route."
