State Highway 28 near Tirau in the Waikato region is closed following a crash.

Police were called to the two-vehicle crash near Leslie Road and Whites Road, Tapapa at 11.44am.

Police say it appears two people have been injured.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area and expect delays.
