Women open ND campaign

Youth is at the forefront of the Bay of Plenty Women's representative cricket team, which will start their ND Women's campaign at Blake Park this weekend.

While the team is young in age, with six of the of ten team members still eligible for the Bay Secondary Schoolgirls team, all but one of the youngsters have previously made their Bay senior women's team debut.


The Bay Women's side start their season, with three Twenty 20 games over the weekend, meeting Poverty Bay first up on Saturday.

Next day they play a double header squaring off against Hamilton on Sunday morning before meeting Waikato Valley in the afternoon encounter.

Big occasion experience will be provided by the Bay of Plenty captain Anna Peterson.

The Northern Spirit stalwart played for the White Ferns last season and has been recently selected for New Zealand Women Emerging Players, who are to play a short sharp series with Australia in November.

Another who has played for the Northern Spirit is Jacinta Coleman, who is one of the six players still eligible for the Bay Secondary Schoolgirls side.

Tia Robinson, Katie Mountain, Jo Taris, Kate Anderson and Piki Tai are the other Bay team members still attending secondary school with Katie Mountain making her Bay first eleven debut.
