An event aimed at celebrating breastfeeding and normalising it as part of everyday life is being held in Tauranga.
The annual Big Latch On is a well-known international event held each year.
Groups of breastfeeding mums and their whānau come together at registered locations around the world to ‘latch on’ their child all at the same time.
The event aims to celebrate breastfeeding and its health benefits and normalise breastfeeding as part of everyday life, says organisers of the local event.
The Western Bay of Plenty Breastfeeding Coalition (Ūkaipō ki te rohe Hauāuru) will be hosting this year’s Big Latch On at Papamoa Plaza on Friday, April 12, from 10.30am – 12.30pm.
“The Big Latch On has been running for 19 years, started by Women’s Health Action in 2005.
“This is a global event that started right here in New Zealand.
“The Big Latch On aims to support parents in their communities on their feeding journeys, by creating safe and accepting spaces. It provides an opportunity for parents to connect with and meet new friends and receive support and information from local services.
“We welcome all māmā and their whānau to come and celebrate with us. Join in the fun, friendship, be in to win spot prizes, partake in light refreshments, be entertained and receive helpful and supportive information and resources to assist you in your breastfeeding journey.
“As part of this event, we are also supporting the PROJECT UPLIFT campaign, a non-profit organisation dedicated to supporting women’s confidence, comfort and dignity across the Pacific and South-East Asia, through bra donations.
“We would appreciate if you have any recycled maternity bras that you would like to donate – bring along on the day and place in the donation box.”
Do you have any recycled maternity bras?
Bring along on the day and donate to a worthy cause.
