People travelling over the Kaimai Range via State Highway 29 are being warned to expect delays.
Night time road closures are being planned for for five nights, starting Saturday, March 17, through to Thursday, March 21.
NZTA says the closure will be from 8pm to 3.30am to allow for resurfacing works to take place.
"The closure points on the western side (Waikato) are at the SH29/24 and SH29/28 intersections and on the eastern side (BOP) at the SH29/Cambridge Rd intersection," says an alert from the roading agency.
"Emergency services will have access at all times, residents can access their property from the relevant side of the closure (worksite is between SH28 and Kaimai Summit)."
The alternative route is as follows: South: all vehicles: SH28, SH5, SH30, SH33, SH2 via Rotorua South: light vehicles: SH28, SH5, SH36 via Rotorua North: SH24, SH27, SH26, SH2 via Karangahake Gorge.
