Update, 7.45pm: Police can now advise that a motorcyclist has died following a crash on State Highway 30 near the intersection with Luxton Road, Awakeri.

The crash, involving a car and a motorcycle, was reported to Police at 5.50pm.

The road remains closed while the Serious Crash Unit examines the crash scene.

Motorists are asked to continue taking alternative routes where possible.

Update, 6.20pm: State Highway 30 is closed following a serious crash near the intersection with Luxton Road, Awakeri.

Traffic management is being put in place and motorists are asked to take alternative routes where possible.

At this stage there is no confirmed information regarding injuries.

Earlier, 5.54pm:  Emergency services are responding to the scene of a crash near Awakeri on State Highway 30.

Police were advised at 5.50pm that a car and motorcycle had collided on SH 30, near the intersection with Luxton Road.

Police say they have a report that the car has rolled.

Ambulance, police and a fire truck from Edgecumbe Fire Brigade is at the scene.

It is unknown at this stage if there are any injuries.
