An investigation is underway following a workplace death in Athenree in the Western Bay of Plenty.

In a statement released today, police say one person has died following a workplace incident on Athenree Road in Athenree on April 9.

"Emergency services were notified of the incident at around 11.50am.

"Sadly the person died at the scene.

"WorkSafe has been notified."
