Safety improvements being made on Links Avenue at Mount Maunganui means that this week, starting from April 27, the road will be managed as stop/go traffic until the work is finished.
The safety improvement work on Links Avenue started on April 15.
"During stop/go traffic management, we will keep one side of the road and footpath open to allow movement through the work area," says a Tauranga City Council spokesperson.
"During the same period, we are working at the Links Avenue Reserve."
Vehicles working at the site will have access to Links Avenue.
"We’ll be working from Monday to Saturday, mostly between 7am and 7pm, weather dependent. Some activities might produce noise and dust."
To limit the impact of the works on Links Avenue for directly affected residents, enforcement - issuing tickets - will be paused until May 13, 2024.
This will allow vehicle access anytime to and from Links Avenue from Concord Avenue. However, cyclists and pedestrians can continue to use Links Avenue during work.
Buses
All public buses will be diverted around Links Avenue for the duration of the work.
Bus services can be accessed on Golf Road or Concord Avenue.
Now that the school holiday period is over, buses will be coming in and out through Golf Road. School bus services remain unchanged, and buses will enter and exit from Golf Road.
Interim Safety Improvements
Tauranga City Council commissioners approved the design for the interim safety improvements on February 26, 2024.
The transitional plan and detailed design plans are on our Let's Talk Tauranga page. Weather permitting, these improvements will be rolled out while the road upgrade work is completed.
You can visit our Let's Talk Tauranga page to get full details and keep up to date on the work happening at Links Avenue.
