Emergency services are responding to a three-vehicle crash in Tapapa, north-west of Rotorua.

State Highway 5, Tapapa is closed between Tapapa Road and Maraeroa Road following the crash.

"The crash was reported to Police at 3.15pm and involved three vehicles," says a police spokesperson.

Initial indications are that there are serious injuries.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area and expect delays.
