Motorists planning to travel on State Highway 25 between Tairua and Hikuai during the next four nights are advised to take a detour or plan to travel during the day.

Due to the installation of capping beams in place, the Hikuai River Bridge will be closed overnight from Monday, May 20 to Thursday, May 23 from 8pm to 6am each night.

The bridge will be open during the day under a 30km/h temporary speed restriction.

In case of weather, the contingency dates are Sunday, May 26 through to Friday, June 7.

NZTA advise that a detour is in place via SH25 and 25A.
