Police name motorbike crash victim

Police can now name the motorbike rider who died following a crash on Te Poi Road near Matamata on Friday, May 17.

She was 51-year-old Donna Gaye McCauley from Waipa.

"Enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing," says a police spokesperson.

Police responded to a crash involving a motorbike and a vehicle on Te Poi Road, near the intersection with State Highway 29, about 1.20pm on Friday.

Despite the best efforts of emergency services, the motorbike rider, who suffered critical injuries, passed away at the scene a short time later.

The Serious Crash Unit was advised and Te Poi Road was closed while emergency services worked at the scene.
