One person has been rescued from the water following their boat catching on fire in the Tauranga Harbour.
Emergency services including Police, Coastguard and Fire Emergency NZ are in attendance at the scene of a boat on fire near Matakana Island.
Police received a report of the fire around 1.20pm, Wednesday, May 22.
"Coastguard and FENZ are currently working to put out the boat fire," says a police spokesperson.
"The sole occupant abandoned the boat is out of the water and did not require medical attention."
"The Maritime team were alerted earlier to a boat on fire outside the Tauranga harbour entrance," says Bay of Plenty Harbourmaster Jon Jon Peters.
"One person was onboard at the time and was taken safely ashore by a Port of Tauranga pilot boat.
"The boat is currently being observed from a distance and there is no pollution risk identified."
Police say the incident is ongoing at this time.
