Pāpāmoa East Interchange lane closure

State Highway Eastern Link toll road lane closure. Photo supplied.

From Monday, June 10 2024, a 2km section of the left westbound lane of the SH2 Tauranga Eastern Link Toll Road, just past the Kaituna River bridge, will be closed.

This is to keep drivers and crew safe during the construction of the new Pāpāmoa East Interchange.

To set up the lane closure, the westbound lanes of the Tauranga Eastern Link Toll Road will be closed for three nights.

From Monday, 10 June 2024 to Wednesday, 12 June, between 8pm and 5am, traffic heading west to Tauranga, will be diverted via the Te Puke Highway.

Once the lane closure is in place, speed will be reduced to 70km/h when going through the work site.

While construction is underway we’ll focus on minimising disruption to traffic, moving people safely and efficiently through the site.

Why are we still paying a toll?

Firstly, it was unbelievably short sighted that during construction only a few years ago a need for an interchange wasn't identified. Secondly, why are we still paying to drive on a road with lane closures and reduced speed limits? By paying a toll we are entering in to a contract with NZTA to travel on a modern high speed road. By closing lanes and reducing speed limits NZTA are not holding up their part of the deal. The toll should be suspended while work is being carried out.

Still Paying A Toll

This interchange was part of the original plan for this highway, they just decided not to build it. It was not an oversight, but a deliberately made decision.

NO TOLLS

I am angry to have to pay tolls while road works is going on! Single lane 70kph both directions, we are not getting what we are paying for!
