Nominations open for Katikati and Waihī Beach

Nominations for this year’s bi-yearly Katikati and Waihī Beach Community Business Awards are open.

"Don't miss the chance to celebrate local excellence," says Waihī Beach Events and Promotions events manager Matt Nicholson.

The public can make their nominations online now at www.katikatiwaihibeachcommunityawards.co.nz

The awards are a collaboration between Katch Katikati and Waihī Beach Events and Promotions.

"It’s an opportunity for the public to salute community gems and acknowledge local businesses that excel," says Matt.

With 13 awards up for grabs, this year’s award categories are:

People’s Choice Awards:
- Local Employer of the Year
- Emerging Business Star of the Year
- Cultural Ambassador of the Year
- Trade’s Business of the Year
- Professional Service Business of the Year
- Retail Excellence Award
- Excellence in Innovation Award
- Hospitality Excellence Award
- Sportsmanship Award
- Tourism Provider of the Year

The People's Choice Awards celebrate the power of community voice by recognizing local businesses and individuals who have made a significant impact.

These awards are determined by public votes, allowing the community to shine a spotlight on those who have excelled in their fields and contributed to the vibrancy of our region.

It's a chance for everyone to have their say and honor the best in our community.

Judged Awards:
- Community Champion of the Year
- Business Excellence Award
- Local of the Year

The Judged Awards highlight excellence through a thorough evaluation by a panel of esteemed judges. These awards recognize outstanding achievements in various categories, celebrating businesses and individuals who have demonstrated exceptional dedication, innovation, and leadership.

Judged on specific criteria, these awards set the benchmark for excellence in our community, honoring those who strive to make a positive impact.

The Community Champion of the Year Award honours individuals or groups making significant contributions to social causes and community well-being.

The Business Excellence Award recognises businesses excelling in leadership, innovation, and community contribution.

The Local of the Year Award Celebrates individuals who have significantly enhanced the community through dedication and leadership.

Nominations close on July 5, voting starts on July 22, and the awards night will be hosted by Waihī Beach’s Secret Garden in October.

Matt says that considering the economic climate, it’s nice for local businesses to have something to celebrate.

"The Secret Garden is also a great place to have the awards," says Matt.
