DoorDash is today launching in Tauranga, Palmerston North, Dunedin, Kapiti Coast and Rangiora, marking a significant milestone in the business’s expansion and growth plans across New Zealand.

Since launching in 2013, DoorDash has become the largest on-demand local commerce platform in the United States and operates in thousands of cities world-wide.

Its mission is to bring together communities by connecting consumers with their favourite local and national businesses by bringing ‘More to Your Door’.

In May 2022, DoorDash launched in Wellington, New Zealand, where it has since grown a strong and loyal base of customers, dashers and merchants.

Following this success, DoorDash expanded to Christchurch, Auckland and, most recently, to Hamilton in early 2024.

DoorDash’s New Zealand general manager Bradley Thomas says he is thrilled that more Kiwis will now be able to access incredible local eateries through DoorDash.

“We are excited to bring DoorDash to Tauranga, Palmerston North, Dunedin, Kapiti Coast, and Rangiora. These areas have vibrant local food scenes, and we look forward to connecting Kiwis with their favourite local restaurants and eateries.

“This launch is particularly exciting as we continue to expand our footprint in New Zealand, enabling more communities to experience the convenience and variety that DoorDash offers.”

To celebrate the occasion, DoorDash is giving all new customers in Tauranga, Palmerston North, Dunedin, Kapiti Coast and Rangiora Coast 50 per cent off their first two DoorDash orders and $0 delivery fee for their first 30 days (fees & T&Cs apply to each offer*).

A variety of local favourite eateries have already signed up to the DoorDash platform including Re Burger, Burger Burger, Pizza Club and Gong cha.

Boris Reiber from Re Burger says they are excited to be part of DoorDash’s continued expansion across the country.

“We are pleased to see DoorDash expanding across the country. DoorDash has been a key partner in growing our business and we are excited to see what's to come.” says Boris

Suresh Kodali, Director of Pizza Club says "DoorDash has been an amazing partner in helping us grow our business and reaching more Kiwis since they launched in New Zealand. Pizza Club is thrilled to have DoorDash as a delivery partner and we look forward to growing our business further reaching more Kiwis as DoorDash expands."

There seems to be a general meme of home delivery at the moment. Milk Run, Uber Eats, various Pizza places, and now, Door Dash, are all promoting their services at the moment. I'm not against this, but there is still something pleasant about dining out, and not having to cook and clean up. It will be interesting to see if this trend takes off. Like all businesses, I wish them well.
