Hundreds farewell lawyer Greg King

Hundreds of people have packed the Cathedral of St Paul in Wellington today to farewell top defence lawyer Greg King.

The high profile lawyer, who most recently defended Ewen Macdonald in the Scott Guy murder trial, was found dead by his car on Dungarvan Rd in Newlands last Saturday.

The 43-year-old leaves behind his wife Catherine Milnes-King and two daughters, Pippa and Millie.

Today mourners filled the cathedral for the service at 11am that will be followed by a private cremation.

Greg King's plain pine casket arrived at the funeral at 9.30am accompanied by his court robe and wig.

Judith Ablett-Kerr QC and crown prosecutor Simon Moore are among those in attendance.

Bay of Plenty MP and Minister of Health Tony Ryall has also spoken at the funeral.

Singer Brooke Fraser, daughter of the lawyer's friend Bernie Fraser, is also expected to perform.

Detective Inspector Paul Basham said on Saturday that police were satisfied there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.

The matter has been referred to Coroner Wallace Bain, who has imposed restrictions surrounding the reporting of the case.
