Crash on SH2 involving truck

Reports are coming in of a truck crash on State Highway 2, between Baypark and Papamoa.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says a truck and car have crashed with a crash on the highway.

The caller says the eastbound lane of the highway is blocked and emergency services have been called.

A police spokesperson says police responded to reports of a two vehicle crash on State Highway 2, Papamoa Beach, at 8.55am.

"It appears one person received minor to moderate injuries, the road is partially blocked."

A Fire and Emergency NZ spokesperson says four fire crews and a specialist vehicle were sent to the scene just before 9am.

One person was trapped in the car and crews worked to free them, he says.

Hato Hone St John received a call at 8.54am about an incident on State Highway 2, Mount Maunganui.

"We responded with one ambulance which took one patient in minor condition to Tauranga Hospital."

Google's live traffic reporting shows there are delays in the area on that stretch of road.

NZTA says due to a crash the left lane is blocked on the Tauranga Eastern Link, between Sandhurst Drive and Bruce Road.

People are advised to avoid the area or expect delays in their travels.
