Aspiring artists and musicians in Tauranga and the Western Bay of Plenty have an exciting opportunity to further their creative careers.

Applications are now open for two Acorn Foundation scholarships, each designed to support local talent in the creative arts.

The Jann Medlicott Creative Arts Scholarship, valued at $5000, is aimed at individuals undertaking or about to commence further study in any genre of the creative arts.

This scholarship provides financial support to help emerging artists pursue their educational and professional goals.

Applicants must have received part of their secondary education in Tauranga or the Western Bay, or currently reside in the area.

The Christine Tustain Classical Music Award, valued at $2000, is for students preparing for a career in classical music, whether singing or instrumental.

This award also requires applicants to have ties to Tauranga or the Western Bay through residency or education.

Both scholarships are facilitated by Creative Bay of Plenty Te Waka Auaha Toi, an organisation dedicated to nurturing our region’s creative community.

Applications for both scholarships close at 5pm on July 29.

Previous winner of the Jann Medlicott scholarship, Niamh Blackman, who now has a career as an actress in London, says, “I have been ever grateful to Jann Medlicott for her generosity – her award made it possible for me to study acting in London, where I am to this day.”

Annie Hill, strategy & capability lead at Creative Bay of Plenty, encourages eligible candidates to apply.

“These scholarships provide invaluable support for our local creative talents,” she says.

“We are excited to see the diverse range of applicants and look forward to helping them achieve their artistic dreams.”
