A large water main break in Mount Maunganui last week resulted in severe damage to the road surface and subsequent removal of a tree.

A tree on the street needed to be removed to enable repairs on the 250mm watermain.
TCC says road repairs will be completed this week.
Meanwhile watermain upgrade work in Selwyn Street, Spring Street and Williams Street are almost complete.
Final connections and removal of old connections to the trunk main in Cameron Road are expected to take place this week.
TCC says maintenance work arising from the valve surveys in Tauranga South is currently underway and will be ongoing over the next two months.

Transportation
- Annual Resealing Work: Work on the summer reseal programme is now under way in various streets around the city.
- Beach Road: Work to build a rock revetment for erosion protection on the Beach Road foreshore between Fergusson Park and Shaw Place Reserve is continuing. While the work is underway Beach Road will be reduced to one lane from time to time. The work will take about eight weeks to complete. Please take care when driving or walking around the work site.
- Bus Shelters: Work to install new bus shelters at seven locations around the city is continuing.
- Construction Sites: Watch for construction vehicle movements around large commercial construction sites at:

- Police Station Site, Willow Street
- Horny Bull Site, The Strand
- 40 Selwyn Street at the corner of Elizabeth Street and Selwyn Street
- New Burger King site at the corner of 5th/ 6th Avenue and Cameron Road.
- Matapihi Rail Bridge Pathway: The bridge is closed to everything except trains while work to repair the pedestrian and cycle pathway is underway. People trying to use the rail tracks to cross the bridge are at risk of serious injury or death. Security guards and surveillance cameras are monitoring the bridge. Anyone caught using the railway tracks to cross the bridge faces prosecution, including a $10,000 fine. A shuttle bus is operating between Matapihi and Bayfair from Monday to Saturday.
- Marine Parade: Weather permitting, work to upgrade Marine Parade between Commons Avenue and Pacific Avenue is due to be completed this week. Expect delays and take care when driving in the area.
- Otumoetai Road: Work to install new median islands and a pedestrian crossing near the intersection with Cherrywood Drive is due to start this week.
- SH2A (Turret Road): Weather permitting, work to resurface Turret Road between the Hairini Bridge and the Maungatapu roundabout is due to start this week. The work will be done at night to minimise traffic delays and is expected to take three nights to complete.
- SH2 (Hewletts Road): Weather permitting, work to resurface the intersections with Hewletts Road and Maru Street and Aerodrome Road is due to start this week. The work will be done at night to minimise traffic delays and is expected to take three nights to complete.
- Streetlight Upgrades: Work to replace rusted streetlight columns is continuing in Larisa Grove and is due to start this week in Longview Drive, Athena Grove and Olympus Grove. Work to repaint streetlight columns in Grey and Elizabeth Streets is also underway.
- Hairini Street /Tamahika Street: Work to install a new bus shelter and realign the existing cycle way is underway.
- Ultrafast Broadband: Work to install Ultrafast Broadband is being completed in Millers Road, Carmichael Road to Bethlehem area, Golf Road to Bayfair area, Aviation Drive, McDonald Street and Aerodrome Road areas. New work is due to start in the Waihi Road to Moffat Road area including Bethlehem Heights. Also Matapihi Road and Owens Road to Bayfair Road area. Most of the work is being done off the road.
- Waihi Road: Work to build a new inset bus bay opposite Paine Street is due to start this week. Please take care when driving in the area.
- Welcome Bay Road: Work to rebuild a section of Welcome Bay Road between James Cook Drive and Waitaha Road is due to start later this month.
Parks and Leisure
- Foreshore and Main Beach trading licenses have been awarded for the 2012/2013 summer. All license holders have been through a rigorous health and safety process which involved the Harbourmaster for activities that involve water. We have a few new traders, as well as the old favourites. Keep an eye out for operators along Marine Parade, Pilot Bay and opposite the cafes on Main Beach.
- Willow control has been programmed in the McCardles Bush area of the Waikareao Estuary. Work has begun on the gravel walkway link along Goods Road Reserve to the Daisy Hardwick walkway.
- Walkway renewal work starts at Faulkner Park on Monday 12 November.
