An orange heavy rain warning remains in place for the Bay of Plenty and Coromandel.
In an udpated weather forecast, the MetService says heavy rain is forecast for the north of the North Island and the Tasman region.
"A frontal system over the north Tasman Sea is expected to move over northern New Zealand today and early Tuesday.
"A period of heavy rain is expected in the north of the North Island, and about the western Tasman District.
Warnings and Watches are in force.
"People are advised to keep up to date with the latest forecasts."

Area: Coromandel Peninsula
Period: 14 hours from 8am Mon 15 Jul to 10pm Mon 15 Jul
Forecast: Expect 70 to 100 mm of rain, with possible thunderstorms this afternoon. Peak rates of 15 to 25 mm/h expected, mainly this afternoon.
Minimal chance of upgrading to a Red Warning.
Impact: Streams and rivers may rise rapidly. Surface flooding, slips, and difficult driving conditions possible.
Action: Clear your drains and gutters to prepare for heavy rain. Avoid low-lying areas and drive cautiously.
Area: Bay of Plenty west of Kawerau
Period: 16 hours from 12pm Mon 15 Jul to 4am Tue 16 Jul
Forecast: Expect 80 to 110 mm of rain inland, and 50 to 80 mm of rain about the coast. Peak rates of 15 to 25 mm/h expected.
