Update 1.58 pm: State Highway 29 is closed following a serious truck crash.
NZ Transport Agency suggests that drivers allow extra time for detours.
NZTA reports "Due to a truck crash, SH29 is closed between SH28/29 Intersection (Rapurapu Rd) and Hanga Rd on the western (Matamata) side of the Kaimai Ranges summit. Allow extra time for a detour.
"Light vehicles may use SH28, SH5 and SH36 via Rotorua to the south or use SH2, 26, 27 & 24 via Waihi to the north (through Karangahake Gorge, best option for traffic to/from Auckland).
"Heavy vehicles should use the main SH28, SH5, SH30, SH33, SH2 - detour route via Rotorua"
Initial report 12.29 pm: Motorists travelling on State Highway 29 at Te Poi should expect delays following a crash this afternoon, says a police spokesperson.
"Emergency services were alerted to the crash, involving a car and truck, at about 12.10pm. The incident happened between Hanga and Rapurapu roads.
"Initial indications suggest two people have serious injuries, one person has moderate injuries, and two people have minor injuries.
"Both lanes are currently blocked and traffic management is being arranged."
