Serious crash: Tauranga road closed

Emergency services are at the scene.

UPDATE: A section of Maleme St is closed in Tauranga following a serious crash.

A police spokesperson says emergency services are responding to a serious crash in the area.

"About 6.15am, police were alerted to a crash involving a motorcycle and a car on Maleme St, between Tangmere Pl and Cameron Rd.

A Hato Hone St John spokesperson says they were notified of an incident on Maleme St in Greerton at 5.59am.

"We responded with one ambulance, one rapid response vehicle and one operations manager."

Police say the Serious Crash Unit has been notified.

People are advised to avoid the area.

People are being advised to avoid Maleme Street in Tauranga this morning.

Tauranga City Council reports that part of the road is closed following what is understood to be a crash.

Members of the public are reporting that police are at the scene.

A Fire and Emergency NZ spokesperson says one truck has been sent to the scene to help police.
