NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi is advising caution on the roads around parts of Hawke’s Bay this evening, Monday, August 12, as a severe thunderstorm watch is in place.
The warning is currently in place until around midnight, between Nūhaka and Central Hawke’s Bay.
It could bring with it winds gusting up to 130 km/h damaging trees, powerlines and making driving hazardous.
Meanwhile, a strong wind watch remains in place for Central Hawke’s Bay through to Tararua District.
Truck and van drivers, light vehicles, towing vehicles, and motorcyclists must take extra care in the strong winds and, importantly, drive to the conditions.
Road users are encouraged to check weather and road conditions before travelling.
