Three vehicle crash on Tauranga Eastern Link

Emergency services were called to the crash just after 5.30am.

UPDATE: One person has been taken to hospital following a three-vehicle crash on the Tauranga Eastern Link.

Emergency services were alerted to the crash about 5.35am, says a police spokesperson in a statement to SunLive.

Police say the crash happened near the Kaituna River.

"The scene is being cleared and the cause of the crash is being investigated."

A Hone Hato St John spokesperson says they were notified of the crash on the TEL at 5.37am.

"We responded wth one ambulance and one manager.

"One patient was assessed by the crew at the scene and was taken to Tauranga Hospital in a moderate condition."

Police initially said one person had received serious injuries.

NZTA reports that the westbound lane prior to Kaituna River was blocked.

The roading agency says the road is now clear.

Reports are coming in a crash blocking one lane of the Tauranga Eastern Link.

A post on the Bay of Plenty & Waikato Accidents and Traffic Facebook page says there is a "crash on the TEL on the Paengaroa side of the Kaituna Bridge".

"Debris all over the road."

An NZTA highway alert says there is a crash blocking the westbound lane prior to Kaituna Bridge.

"Expect delays."
