Man arrested after Pāpāmoa police chase

Update 12.09pm: A man is due to appear in court on Tuesday following an arrest in Pāpāmoa.

"A 26-year-old man was arrested on Roxbury Place at 11.10am for breach of bail," says a police spokesperson.

"He is scheduled to appear in Tauranga District Court tomorrow, 20 August."

Earlier, 11.16am: One person is in custody following a police chase in Pāpāmoa earlier today. 

In a statement sent to SunLive at 10.35am, police say the driver was asked to pull over at around 10.35am.

"The driver was followed at road speed for a short distance and stopped along Gloucester Road before fleeing on foot," says a police spokesperson. 

Police say officers, including a dog unit, searched for the man through residential Pāpāmoa.

A SunLive reader says he saw four police cars heading down the Tauranga Eastern Link towards Pāpāmoa.

Police say they have taken one person into custody.
