A man is due to appear in court this afternoon after being arrested earlier  in Pyes Pā.

A SunLive reader driving from Rotorua to Tauranga on State Highway 36/Pyes Pā Road on Tuesday morning says armed police had blocked off a side road with a police car.

"There were police everywhere on Pyes Pā Road near the Taumata Road intersection," says the SunLive reader.

"I saw at least six or seven cars, and the police were armed.

"One of the roads I went past had a police car blocking the road.

"And there was an officer in a paddock."

Police say a 35-year-old man was arrested without incident at 10.10am.

"He’s scheduled to appear in Tauranga District Court this afternoon," says a police spokesperson.
