Power out to hundreds in Welcome Bay

File photo.

An unexpected power outage in Welcome Bay is leaving hundreds of properties without power.

Powerco reports that a field crew is attending damaged equipment in Welcome Bay following the unexpected outage at 8.21am.

Initially 1594 properties in Welcome Bay experienced a power cut, with power now restored to most homes, and a remaining 71 properties still waiting to have their power switched back on.

A SunLive reader says a power line came down on Welcome Bay Road near the Welcome Bay shops following being struck by a now deceased seagull.

The estimated time for restoration of power to the remaining Welcome Bay properties is unknown at this stage.
