Waihi Golf Club members are appreciating the sense of a job well done following a very successful Daffodil Day golf tournament this week.

"The annual fund-raising Daffodil Day, organised in conjunction with the Katikati Lions Club was held last Thursday as part of the Waihi Golf Clubs monthly meat pack tournament," says Waihi Golf Club member Rodger Bagshaw.

This popular event is held every August to raise money for The Cancer Society NZ.

This year the tournament attracted a field of 91 players, which included a number of entries from nine other golf clubs.

Once again, the Katikati Lions produced a number of keenly sought-after raffle prizes, and also organised and provided the very welcome sausage sizzle out on the course.

The major winners of the tournament for the best gross was Daryll Denyer who won with a round of 78, while the best nett was won by Desley Rosevear with a nett 69.

The winning stableford score of 37 was won by Liz Jackson (Tahuna) on a countback.

The remaining prizes were all on stableford, and in Division One, first was David Campbell (Omanu) with 37 point.

Next, all with 34 points were: Brett Glover (Whangamata), Jethro Meares, Don Mackay, Mike Admiraal, and Barry Laurence (both Tahuna), and Mark Tomsett.

In Division Two, Steve Steiner (Tahuna) had 37 points, next were Jenny Tubman, David Croker, and Tracy Overdevest (Tahuna) all with 36 points.

Next, all with 35 points were Greg Bundle, Jeffrey Evans (Tahuna), Bill White (Thames), and Karen Roche.

TUESDAY NINE HOLE HAGGLE:

A somewhat improved day greeted the Nine Hole section after the previous day’s polar blast. The haggle was stableford, and it was a bit of a bun fight for top spot with Jan Ferguson, Lorraine Meyer, and Margaret Meldrum all having 18 points.

Close behind were Peter Rae, Helen Brady, and John Vautier all with 17 points, with Tangiia Tukatara having 15.

WEDNESDAY LADIES:

It was a Captains choice day, and it was teams of four with the best three stableford scores counting.

The winning team was Megan Jowsey, Avon Gordon, Di Lewis, and Wendy Matutinovich, who were five points ahead of Dot Ramsey, Mavis Bruce, Edna Connolly, and Jenny Tubman.

Third were Heather White, Karen Lee, Di Douglas, and Kathy Ashton.

SATURDAY GOLF:

The rain gods arrived for a wet start to the day.

All the ladies gave the day away, and although some Club Championship matches were played, it was only ten (hardy?) souls who played the Morning haggle.

Mark Mora must have had is web feet on as he scored an impressive 42 points, leaving in his wake John Libby (36), and Ken Purcell (35).

Clearing weather realised a larger field for the Afternoon Haggle, and it was Ron Arthur who was the one who cleared out with 41 points to head off Alister Cochrane on 39.

Next were Harison Madsen and Gary Towler, both with 37, then Michael Bonnici and Mark Bryant on 35. Alex Teesdale had 35.
