Update, 7.25pm:  Police can confirm one person has died following a crash on State Highway 5, Tapapa.

The three-vehicle crash was reported to Police at 3.25pm.

"One person died at the scene. A further three people were seriously injured," said a police spokesperson.

State Highway 5 remains closed while the Serious Crash Unit conduct a scene examination.

Earlier, 4.42pm: State Highway 5, Tapapa is closed between Webster Road and Whites Road following a crash.

The three-vehicle crash was reported to Police at 3.25pm.

Initial indications are that there are serious injuries.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area and expect lengthy detours.
