Paraglider in hospital following crash on Mauao

A paraglider has been airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after crashing into the side of Mauao at Mount Maunganui this afternoon.

Emergency services responded to the scene about 4.15pm after reports that a paraglider had crashed into bush.

A Hato Hone St John spokesperson confirmed they attended a “paragliding incident” on Mauao.

“Two ambulances and one operations manager attended alongside Fire and Emergency NZ (Fenz) and Surf Lifesaving NZ members.

“One patient was rescued and transported to Waikato Hospital by helicopter.”

St John said the patient had suffered serious injuries.

A Fenz spokesperson said two fire trucks attended the scene and nobody was trapped upon arrival. Fire crews were assisting ambulance staff.
