A charity golf tournament at Ōmokoroa Golf Course on Monday is expected to be the largest fundraising event in the Western Bay of Plenty.

The tournament hopes to raise $25,000 that will be put towards reconstructing the playground at Ōmokoroa Point School.

Organised by Josh Beban, who’s a member of the school’s PTA, the event has already sold out, bringing in $17,500 from ticket sales and sponsors alone.

“We’re hoping to raise plenty more on the day through a silent auction, putting competition, and raffles,” he said.

This year, 150 golfers making up 34 teams sponsored by 24 local companies, will compete in the tournament, with all proceeds going directly to the school.

“This is the second year I’ve run this event, and it’s already Ōmokoroa’s largest annual fundraising event,” said Beban.

Locals are encouraged to come out and watch the tournament, which promises to be a fun and competitive day.

It’s an event not only focused on golf, but on bringing the community together to support local education.
