An area of low pressure is currently covering the North Island.

Temperatures for the Bay of Plenty during the week ahead will be dipping below 10 degrees Celsius each night, while peaking between 17 and 20 degrees during the daytime.

The MetService is forecasting a slow moving front which is likely to bring significant rain to the lower North Island on Monday.

"There is low confidence that warning amounts will accumulate in Wellington and the south of Wairarapa," a MetService spokesperson said.

On Tuesday, a ridge of high pressure is set to build over the South Island while a showery southerly flow affects the North Island. The risk of severe weather is minimal.

A high is expected to bring settled weather to much of the country on Wednesday, and the risk of severe weather is minimal.

On Thursday, a front is forecast to bring rain to the southwest of the South Island.

"The risk of severe weather is however considered minimal," a MetService spokesperson said.
