UPDATE: Powerco is working to restore power to homes in Greerton after a power pole came down earlier this morning.

Emergency services were called to the downed pole on Maleme St around 6.30am.

No injuries have been reported from the incident.

In a statement to SunLive at 8.30am, a Powerco spokesperson said field crews are working to restore power supply to 34 remaining properties.

In total, 182 customers in Greerton lost power after lines came down on Maleme Street when a vehicle hit a pole, said Powerco.

"One hundred and eighty-two customers initially lost power in this outage, with power restored to 148 properties in one hour. We do not have an estimated time for the remaining customers to be restored as yet.   

"Powerco thanks customers for their patience and understanding as crews work as quickly and safely as possible to make repairs and restore power to all affected customers."

How customers can stay safe

If people see downed power lines, it’s important to:

-Stay at least 10m away from the lines and poles - that's about the length of a bus.

-Call 111 immediately or Powerco's emergency number, 0800 27 27 27.

-Downed lines should always be treated as live.

People are being warned to drive with caution on Maleme St in Greerton as powerlines are down on the road.

A SunLive reader has emailed in saying there are live powerlines on the road this morning after what appears to have been crash.

Photos show a concrete power pole has been snapped off at the base of the pole.

The reader believes some drivers are "driving through the scene not understanding the immediate damages they were in, as power can ark".

"I called emergency services to sucute the scene making the area safe."

Powerco is reporting that 182 properties are currently without power in the area this morning.
