The inaugral Tauranga Trail Run will see hundreds of runners complete a 28km track this morning.
The Smiths Sports Shoes-sponsored event will see runners complete two loops of a 14km track set in the TECT Park between Tauranga and Rotorua.Last year's trail run champion Russell Lake.Photo: Jamie Troughton/Dscribe Journalism.
The trail run is New Zealand's first carboNZero-certified running race, with terrain ranging from pine forest, native forest, sub-alpine tussock and stunning stream crossings.
Participants will cross streams and bridges before reaching a summit with views across to Mt. Tarawera, Mt. Ngongotaha, Mt. Edgecumbe and Mt. Maunganui.
The event raises money for the Tauranga Boys' College cross country team, with a portion of the entry fees funding tree-planting at the TECT Park.
