The Bay of Plenty Bromeliad Club is gearing up for its annual Bromeliad Spring Sale on Saturday, November 2, at Tauranga Yacht & Power Boat Club.

From 8am-12pm plant enthusiasts will be able to explore a vibrant array of bromeliads, all available at budget-friendly prices.

The event promises to be a plant lover’s paradise, with local growers to show a diverse selection of bromeliads not typically found in local nurseries. Visitors can expect to see a wide variety of these tropical plants, known for their stunning colours and unique architectural forms.

With the Bay of Plenty’s warm summers and favourable growing conditions, bromeliads have become increasingly popular among gardeners looking to enhance their outdoor spaces.

“Bromeliads offer year-round interest, with some showcasing patterned foliage and spectacular flowers that can last for up to a year,” said Lynley Breeze, president of BOP Bromeliad Club.

“We’re excited to share our passion for these beautiful plants and help local gardeners expand their collections.”

Bromeliads thrive in warm climates and are well-suited for the Bay of Plenty region. They require minimal care, mainly good drainage, and can adapt to various conditions, including sun and shade. Many varieties can grow as epiphytes, making them perfect for creating “living walls” or adding vertical interest to gardens.

The BOP club’s Spring Sale offers free entry, spot prizes, and cash-only transactions with a cash-out facility available. Attendees can also receive growing advice directly from experienced club members.

The Spring Sale’s new, larger location at the Yacht Club allows for more participants and better accessibility to those working during the week.
