The Chiefs Rugby Club will have two teams featured in the Elevate 7s tournament at Te Puke Sports and Recreation Club this week.

The two-day tournament will be played on November 1 and 2 to give New Zealand Sevens teams additional game time ahead of the upcoming HSBC World Series, said a statement from the Chiefs.

It will also provide an opportunity for many up-and-coming players to show their skills in the shortened format.

The Chiefs Sevens team features many University of Waikato Chiefs U18 and U20s players who have the potential to excel in the future with Sevens or the Gallagher Chiefs.

The team will be coached by former Brazil Women’s Rugby Sevens coach and Waikato Rugby’s Women’s Rugby Development Manager, Ruben Samuels.

Chiefs Manawa players Rosie Kelly and Reese Anderson will also pull on the jersey ahead of their Sky Super Rugby Aupiki pre-season alongside many standout performers from Farah Palmer Cup. They will be coached by Bay of Plenty Volcanix head coach Paul Tietjens.

Games will kick off at midday on Friday.
