Multiple injuries following bus crash near Rotorua

Update, 10.30am:  At least 12 people have been injured after a bus rolled in Broadlands, near Rotorua, this morning.

Police said the crash involved a single bus rolling at the intersection of Broadlands Road and Allen Road shortly before 7.30am.

Police said three people have serious injuries, two are moderately injured, and five others have minor injuries – all have been taken to hospital by helicopter. Hato Hone St John has listed 12 people requiring hospital treatment.

The road remains blocked and is expected to remain so for some time.

Diversions are in place at Ohaaki Road and Vaile Road.

A witness who was on the scene told the Herald it was a serious crash with several injured.

He said there were 31 on board the bus at the time of the crash on Broadlands Road.

A police spokesperson said; “Emergency services are in attendance at a serious crash in Broadlands, which was reported shortly before 7.30am.”

“It’s believed there may be serious injuries.”

A Hato Hone spokesperson said four ambulances, a helicopter and a rapid response unit were on the scene, along with four clinical support units and one MIST (Major Incident Support Team) support unit.

Paramedics were assessing up to 30 people who were on board the bus.

A second helicopter is on its way.

One patient in a moderate condition and one patient in a serious condition had been airlifted to Waikato hospital.

Three patients in a moderate condition, one patient in a minor condition, and one patient in a serious condition were transported to Rotorua hospital.

Five patients in a minor condition were transported to Taupo hospital.

Diversions are currently in place off Broadlands Road at Ohaaki Road and Vaile Road and are expected to remain in place for some time.

"It involved a single bus rolling at the intersection of Broadlands Road and Allen Road shortly before 7.30am."

Three people have serious injuries, two are moderately injured, and five others have minor injuries – all have been taken to hospital by helicopter.

“Emergency services are in attendance at a serious crash in Broadlands, which was reported shortly before 7.30am,” a police spokesperson said.

“It’s believed there may be serious injuries.”

A Hato Hone spokesperson said four ambulances, a helicopter and a rapid response unit were on the scene and paramedics were assessing up to 30 people who were on board the bus.

Three people are in a serious condition, two people had moderate injuries, and the rest had minor injuries or were unharmed, he said.

A second helicopter is on its way.

Diversions are currently in place off Broadlands Road at Ohaaki Road and Vaile Road and are expected to remain in place for some time.

"Emergency services are in attendance at a serious crash in Broadlands, which was reported shortly before 7.30am," a police spokesperson said.

"It’s believed there may be serious injuries."
