State Highway 30 near Lake Rotoma has now been cleared and the road reopened, following a large slip on Saturday.

NZTA Waka Kotahi reported at 11.07am on Saturday that SH30 was closed to both directions of travel west of Kawerau, near the intersection with Matahi Rd, following a large slip.

Motorists were advised to avoid the area and consider an alternative route for travel. A detour was available via SH34/SH2/SH33.

During the afternoon contractors were on-site working to clear multiple slips.

At 5.20pm, NZTA Waka Kotahi advised that SH30 remained closed west of Kawerau, between Matahi Rd and SH34. Closure points were in place at the intersection with Matahi Rd and the SH30/SH34 intersection.

At 7.07pm NZ Police reported that SH30 had reopened.

“Motorists are thanked for their patience,” said NZ Police.
