Urban Task Force has announced that Tauranga Civil Engineer, Hayden Boag, is the recipient of a prestigious scholarship for 2025 which aims to foster the next generation of property and business leaders within our community.
UTF Chair Scott Adams said a record number of applicants were received for the annual Leader Development Scholarship which is now in its third year.
“The scholarship is designed to encourage, support and retain quality candidates within our local property and business sector. We want to grow their skillset so in time they become a leader who can give back in a professional and personal capacity to those around them," Adams said.
Applicants are assessed on their enthusiasm, drive for progression and leadership potential.
Boag is an up-and-coming Civil Engineer at S&L Land Specialists and has previously worked at Harrison Grierson. He works as both a project manager and site engineer, is a health and safety officer, and also serves on S&L’s wellness committee to help foster a positive workplace culture.
In his scholarship application, Boag said he has a passion for leadership and fostering environments where individuals can thrive.
“I am passionate about advancing in leadership roles as far as I can, as I believe in empowering others to reach their full potential. My aim is to foster an environment where efficiency and collaboration lead to shared success,” he said.
As this year’s recipient, Boag will be given a seat on the UTF Board for 2025 to gain industry insights and further develop his business acumen. He will also have access to an experienced career mentor and industry leader, and will receive a financial contribution towards further study.
Boag said his career goals include obtaining Project Management Professional (PMP) certification and achieving CPENG certification with Engineering New Zealand.
Adams and the UTF Board has warmly congratulated Boag on his scholarship success.
“Hayden has made great progress in his career to date and we are confident this opportunity will help him to hone his leadership skills even further so he can take on greater responsibility. Working together and supporting our rising leaders is an important way in which we can advance the Bay of Plenty’s economy, regional assets and infrastructure.”
UTF represents Tauranga’s property owners, developers and business communities and advocates for positive progress and smart decisions that will support the city’s growth and encourage collaboration. Land supply, housing, community facilities and transport infrastructure are key areas that UTF said it is working hard to improve.
