New Mount Maunganui op-shop builds homes and hope

Following their work to provide families across the region with a decent place to live, Habitat for Humanity is excited to open a destination charity store in downtown Mount Maunganui this December.

With a prime location in Tawa Street, Habitat’s ReStore will raise vital funds to support their local housing programmes. Habitat is seeking donations and volunteers to help bring the store to life.

The ReStore will provide a tangible way for people to connect with the Habitat mission, Habitat Central Region chief executive Nic Greene said.

“Habitat is all about building homes, communities and hope. When you shop, donate, or volunteer at our stores, you’re helping us to do more for local people in housing need.”

Habitat Central recently welcomed three families to new warm, dry and safe homes in Papamoa. They are now part of 22 Bay of Plenty whānau working towards home ownership through Habitat’s rent-to-own Progressive Home Ownership programme.

“The past couple of years have seen us support a number of Bay of Plenty families to make their housing aspirations a reality,” Greene said.

“We’re proud to continue this work and increase our presence in the region with the opening of our Mount Maunganui ReStore.”

Habitat is currently accepting donations of good-quality second-hand goods, including clothing, furniture, household items, books, toys, and more. Email the Mount ReStore at themount@habitat.org.nz.

Habitat also recruits volunteers to help with a variety of roles. Find out more at habitat.org.nz/op-shops.

The Mount Maunganui ReStore is part of a network of 23 across Aotearoa. Follow @themountrestore on Instagram for sneak peaks and opening date announcements.
