NetSuite transforms Vetora Bay of Plenty operation

Vetora is a 100% New Zealand owned vet club which reinvests all profits back into rural communities and its business,

Vetora Bay of Plenty has transformed its operations with NetSuite ERP, improving efficiency and financial oversight across its four clinics.

Verde Group’s Project Salsa delivered the cloud-based enterprise resource planning solution to Vetora in an accelerated two-month deployment.

Verde Group CEO Penny Boland highlighted the suitability of NetSuite for veterinary businesses, particularly multi-site practices grappling with outdated accounting packages.

“NetSuite offers a complete and flexible solution bringing improved visibility and control, along with detailed reporting for stock and performance management,” Boland said.

Mickey van der Merwe, Vetora’s general manager of corporate services, spearheaded the transition after identifying significant challenges with the clinic’s legacy systems.
“The system was overstressed because we integrated on a transaction level with an accounting package that couldn’t handle the volume,” she explained.

The previous software struggled with over 10,000 monthly transactions, leading to frequent crashes and cumbersome manual reconciliations.

“Basic reports like GST would crash the system,” van der Merwe said.

"Poor integration with practice management software further complicated operations, causing inventory inaccuracies.

She emphasized the necessity of an ERP solution to support Vetora’s complex requirements and future growth.

“There aren’t a lot of options for the intricacy of what we do,” she said. Medications, for instance, are often sold in customized bundles based on animal size, requiring adaptable financial systems.

NetSuite’s flexibility has been instrumental in addressing these unique needs. “With NetSuite’s flexibility, the constant tweaking necessary for it to align with our evolving business practices is easily possible,” van der Merwe added.

One year after implementation, Vetora has seen marked improvements. Stock variances, once as high as $60,000, are now negligible.
Daily operations are smoother, with manual reconciliations nearly eliminated.

“Nobody wants to study accounting only to spend their days on reconciliations,” van der Merwe quipped.

Crucial reporting is now instantly accessible, allowing Vetora to monitor business performance with granular detail.

“We’re now able to pinpoint and address any processing gaps, with line-by-line visibility,” she said.

Boland lauded the partnership's success. “We love working alongside organisations providing such essential services within New Zealand’s rural and other communities.

Vetora is now equipped with a modern, scalable, and future-proof cloud solution which helps them focus more on animal health, and less on administration,” she said.

Project Salsa’s success underscores the suitability of NetSuite ERP for high-transaction, complex businesses like Vetora, offering an adaptable and reliable solution for evolving needs.
