A pending bad weather forecast has forced the Greerton Business Association to cancel its Santa in the Square, Greerton, event for tomorrow.

“We’re so disappointed to share that due to the severe weather forecast this Saturday, we’ve had to make the tough decision to cancel our much-anticipated event,” said Rebecca Busby in a statement to SunLive.

The MetService is forecasting rain to develop on Saturday morning, possibly heavy and thundery. Rain is expected for most of the day, with fine weather expected to return to Tauranga on Sunday.

“We were looking forward to welcoming you all to our community festivities, but everyone’s safety - including that of Santa – is our top priority. After all, we need to make sure the Main Man stays fit and ready for his huge night on Christmas Eve.”

Busby said they are now working on another exciting event for the kids - young and old - later in the summer to make up for it.

“In more good news, our Random Acts of Christmas and Cool Christmas Cash promotions are still going strong until Christmas Eve!”

There are five shops around the village on Cameron Rd and Chadwick Rd with cash draw boxes ready for you to pop your receipt into. It’s that easy.

Spend $10 in a Greerton store, write your contact details on your receipt and pop it into one of our prize boxes to be in with a chance to win one of $1000, $750 or $250 cash prizes.

“And be sure to go on a festive hunt for the Random Acts of Christmas giveaways in participating Greerton stores: shop where you see the signs and you could be the lucky recipient of a surprise early Christmas gift.”
