About 70 Tauranga bus stops will move this weekend, most of them literally across the road.
This will meet the requirements of a new bus service beginning on Monday.
The work involves removing road markings, taking down bus stop signs and poles to accommodate new bus routes and changes to existing routes.
A couple of speed humps in Hynds Rd have also been moved to make room for the new low-floor buses. The humps will be replaced later with speed cushions.
Tauranga City Council is also working with CCS Disability Action, Go Bus and Environment Bay of Plenty to design new accessibility bus stops to make catching the bus easier for people with physical limitations.
There will also be changes to kerbing required when these new bus stops are put in.
'Signs will be put on affected bus stops on Wednesday to inform people of the change in location,” says city council communications advisor Meagan Holmes.
'Council is advising bus users to make sure they get a new timetable and check their route and any bus stop changes before the new bus services start next Monday.”
New timetables and routes are available from the Tauranga City Council's Customer Service Centre, the I-Site on Willow Street, and libraries. Information on the new routes, timetables and fare structure is also on www.baybus.co.nz or call 0800 4 BAYBUS for more information.
