UPDATE 4.30PM: A 73-year-old Tauranga man suffered serious head injuries when the bulldozer he was driving went over a bank at Tauranga Quarry.
Mount Maunganui St John Ambulance team leader Gary Bishell says the man suffered head injuries and cuts and bruises from the accident at the quarry in Kaitemako Road at about 1pm today.
Police and St John Ambulance at the bottom of Kaitemako Road today.
'I believe a bank gave way and the bulldozer rolled over.
'He got himself out, and he walked to get some help and they took him down to Kaitemako Road where the ambulance met him.
'He had a head injury and multiple abrasions and lacerations.”
St John Ambulance paramedics treated the man at the bottom of Kaitemako Road before transporting him to hospital.
He is in a stable condition in a Tauranga Hospital ward.
